Noah and the Ten Commandments

By now, you might have seen the movie Noah.  Director Darren Aronofsky takes audiences through an exhilarating ride through the story of Noah and how he built the ark to save himself and his family, plus all the innocent animals, from the great flood that destroyed the world.  The story makes us wonder about the world we currently live in.
In the story, God floods the world to destroy humanity and all the corruption and wickedness that it has brought to the world since God created it.  God created man in His image and it is important that humanity respect that image.  We are to be righteous people, not wicked people who corrupt and destroy the only world that we have.  If you read the Bible, the story of Noah occurs in the book of Genesis.  Perhaps there is a link to another passage that can be explained.  That passage occurs in the book of Exodus, chapter 20.  Verses 1-17 explain the Ten Commandments, and this is in my opinion, the most important passage in the entire Bible.  They are ten laws that come directly from God that show us how we are supposed to be righteous people, not only as individuals, but as an entire population as well.
A few months ago, I met a man named Marty Novitsky.  He has a video on YouTube that offers a great explanation of the Ten Commandments (video below).  Perhaps if we were to follow all of these rules properly, there would be no reason for God to have to destroy the world in the first place.  This video offers a great deal of insight into the Ten Commandments and why we should follow them.  As you watch this video, I urge you to ponder the effects that these laws have on people.  How do people follow these laws today?  Have we strayed from them?  While humanity didn't have these laws at the time Noah lived, what might people have done differently if these laws existed at the time?
We live in an interesting time.  If you're a particularly religious person, you might see climate change as God's punishment to us for becoming wicked and evil people.  For those of you, like me, who aren't particularly religious, think about what humanity's actions have cost us and will continue to cost us if we continue to act in our ways.
Go on this spiritual journey, and watch this video.  You will not be disappointed.

The Hunger Games

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth Directed by: Gary Ross Screenplay by: Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins Based on the novel by Suzanne Collins      If reality television hasn't gone too far yet, then this show should definitely make it go too far.      In a futuristic nation called Panem, one boy and one girl are selected from each of the nation's twelve districts to represent them in an annual television event called the Hunger Games.  Of the 24 contestants, only one will survive in this televised fight to the death.      I like the concept of the story.  While this futuristic society seems somewhat simple, it does not seem all that well developed.  It is unknown how this society came into being, even though it is known how the Hunger Games began.      If this film were released last year, I would have hoped it would be nominated for best make-up.  Many of the characters ...

Django Unchained

Starring: Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson Directed by: Quentin Tarantino Screenplay by: Quentin Tarantino      I think it's safe to say that this film is the most badass film of 2012.  My only explanation; Quentin Tarantino!!!!      When someone asks what a Quentin Tarantino film is about, I first respond with "that's a good question".  But there is actually a real story behind all of his films, including Django Unchained.        Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) is a bounty hunter in the pre-Civil War South.  He's looking for a group of bandits known as the Brittle brothers.  He comes across a slave in a slave transport known as Django (the D is silent (Jamie Foxx)), who knows where to find the Brittle brothers.  But Django has a wife he wants to find (Kerry Washington).  She's a slave at a plantation owned by Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). ...
